The Ponte Jornalista Phelippe Daou, better known as the Rio Negro Bridge, is a 3km-long cable-stayed bridge that connects the city of Manaus, capital of the state of Amazonas, to municipalities in the metropolitan region. In the years 2023 and 2024, the two worst droughts in history caused the scenery under the bridge to change, in such a way as to add a new leisure space for the people of Amazonas, albeit temporary, in the face of an extreme weather event.

With the record drought, an extensive beach has formed amidst the rocks and beams of the bridge, stretching for more than 2km, where it is possible to get there by car or motorcycle, ride a bicycle, walk, fish, bathe and do other activities. Although the drought in the region is a tragedy, a “park”, as the population has come to call the place, seems like an encouragement in the face of the extreme climatic adversities experienced around the world.
